What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy utilizes functional activity as a means to enable people to improve their ability to perform tasks in living and working environments.
About the Occupational Therapists
Our therapists hold current licenses from the State of Washington as Occupational Therapists and attend over 30 hours of continued education every two years to stay current with the best treatment strategies and techniques.
How long will the sessions be?
Sessions are 45 minutes in length. The typical prescription for therapy is 4 weeks in duration, 2-3 times a week. A treatment plan may be lengthened or shortened, to best meet the goals that are set with the patient and the therapist.
What does the program include?
- The first component of a treatment program will be an evaluation of the patient’s current functional performance; this will include discussing the injury, medical history and treatment to date, range of motion testing, strength testing, standardized testing and work simulation/functional activities. This will be followed by a review of the findings with the patient and development of an individualized treatment plan.
- Treatments will be active or passive in nature, with a goal of progression to active, functional treatment. Passive treatment may include use of modalities, such as ultrasound, paraffin, e-stim, or manual therapy such as ASTYM (Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization). Active treatment may include exercise or functional activities designed to simulate work or household tasks.
What is expected of the patient?
- Arriving on time and attend sessions on a consistent basis.
- Participate in treatment sessions and home exercise program as outlined.
- Communicate openly with therapists.
- Wear appropriate clothing.
