Our individualized work injury rehabilitation programs focus on physical and psychological obstacles that prevent a safe return to work. The treatment we provide addresses the global nature of the injury and recovery, including improving a workers physical performance, safety and confidence. The programs are designed by our physical and occupational therapists who have extensive knowledge of the Workers Compensation System. Program components include physical conditioning/strengthening, safe materials handling instruction, posture and pacing education and specific work simulation/duplication.
What is Work Hardening?
A state approved intensive work rehabilitation program that focuses on physical conditioning, pain management, as well as work simulated activities to promote a safe return to work. It is for those clients who have a specific job in which they will be returning, along with a job analysis.
How long will the program be?
Program is typically 4-8 hours/day, 3-5 days a week with heavy focus on functional retraining over a 4 week period.
What does the program include?
- Physical therapy (generally 1-2 hours a day) Sessions will implement an active approach to managing the patient’s pain or injury. This may include aerobic activity to promote fitness, stamina, circulation to help with healing, and stress-management. Stretching exercises are also included to address any range of motion limitations and to minimize stress on non-injured body parts during conditioning. Strengthening and/or stabilization exercises will be tailored towards each patient’s injury. We also work to provide the patient with the tools necessary to manage any potential flare-ups, should they occur, and to continue with the physical conditioning upon completion of the program.
- Occupational therapy (generally 3-6 hours a day) Sessions will incorporate functional and work-simulated activities to help the patient increase functional capacities to return to work. A program is designed specifically for each patient based on their job goals and requirements. Example: Lifting up to 50 lbs or frequently reaching overhead.
What is expected of the patient?
